These super quick exciting lightweight sports cars are designed with safety in mind and their performance is unequalled against any road registered car in the world. The idea to assemble Caterham cars in MALAYSIA came about when it was found that there was a lack of a mid range competition sports cars to slot into the gap between go-carts and formula type open wheeler racing cars currently being raced in Malaysia.
The original plan was to have a Caterham Championship race series similar to the series currently running in 8 different countries throughout the world, [UK, German, France, Japan, Scotland, Turkey, and USA] This plan is still pending and we hope to make Malaysia the 9th country to host rounds of the Caterham Cup Championships. Malaysia being the leading motor sports country in ASEAN with a steadily growing racing culture, has an opportunity to promote this race series using the Caterham car as the basis of a series recognized throughout the world as the worlds most raced car, with in excess of 700 cars competing on racing circuits each and every weekend throughout the year.
The support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports was very encouraging, especially Dato Ong Tee Kiat, who provided support and advice along the way. The original intent was to field a team of approx 12 cars supported by the Ministry with cars being driven by Ministry nominated drivers. However lack of funds and financial constraints caused a rethink of this concept. MITI and MIDA approved licences to import the car in CKD form into Malaysia, as a way to increase brand and model awareness. Neighboring countries have expressed an interest in importing these road registered vehicles from Malaysia to sell. We see a healthy market emerging from this initial beginning. Malaysia has the technical know how, to manufacture a number of components for these vehicles, thereby increasing local content and keeping prices down for the consumer.
